Take a deep breath in. Now, slowly, let it out. This simple activity is something we do all day long and seldom think about. But our lives depend on it. Every cell in the body needs oxygen, which is in the air we breathe. Your lungs receive this oxygen and then move it into the bloodstream. Each cell in the body exchanges oxygen for carbon dioxide, a so-called "waste gas" that your bloodstream carries back to the lungs, where it is exhaled. Think of if we keep on inhaling unwanted gaseous to our lungs what will happen? Please avoid the following for healthy lungs
1. Exposing Yourself to polluted environment.
Pollutants such as dust degrade your lung health and cause difficulty in breathing. Keeping the environment clean is encouraged to boost lung health.
2. Being stressful
In stressful situations, your body releases hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol, that can contribute to rapid breathing. If your lungs are healthy, this is not dangerous. However, in people with chronic lung conditions, such as COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) or asthma, the lungs can't move as much air in and out as they should. This can increase shortness of breath and can contribute to a sensation of panic.
More cortisol release can also cause other challenges, including increased appetite. Or, for those who smoke, stress can cause cravings to smoke more.
3. Smoking
Smoking is a dangerous habit to your overall health including the lungs. The smoke contains toxins such as nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide which when introduced to your body causes chronic inflammation to the lungs and also triggers lung diseases such as asthma and lung cancer which can lead to death.
4.Ignoring composite pits and leaks in your home.
Mold is a type of fungus that puts tiny particles called spores into the air. They can sometimes cause serious lung infections if you have mold allergies, a lung condition such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or a weak immune system your body's defense against germs. If you're sensitive to mold, fix any leaks in your home and avoid compost piles and lawns with clumps of cut grass.
