Asthma is a psychosomatic disorder.

It can be caused by allergens, anxiety, fear, phobias, stress, family history.

Even painkillers and certain types of foods, which are not compatible or rather preserved, processed can trigger it.

Sometimes, anxiety could be the cause and sometimes it could be the effect of asthma.

Compromised breathing happens because of poor unregulated or rhythmic breathing and conditions and environment of pollution.

How to deal with it:

Optimal movement therapy like functional or calisthenics and above all Yogaasanas/postures can be helpful to correct this disorder gradually. Sub maximal training like Jumping Jacks, spot jogging improves heart rate and lung capacity.

All the postures / asanas which involve the diaphragm opening and contraction will certainly help this condition to fill in more oxygen and let out the stale gases and empty the lungs. Breathing in can bring a lot of prana, urja, enthusiasm, uplift your moods and motivate you. Breathing out can result in removing anxieties, despair, resentments, fears, phobias and many such psychological and emotional toxins.

Asanas like Ustrasana (camel pose), Bhujangasana (cobra pose) with correct breathing pattern are beneficial.

How to perform Deep Breathing:

Sit comfortably with your back straight on the mat or on the chair. Make sure your back is not stiff, not constricted and relaxed. Breathe in through your nose. Let your belly fill with air. Breathe out through your nose. Fill in your alveoli like you fill the air in the Balloon, with every breath going in and out. Place one hand on your belly. As you breathe in, feel your diaphragm moving up and down like the waves of the ocean. Initially it will move only 4-5 cms, we have to increase the capacity and take it higher, upto 11-12 cm.

More the diaphragm moves, the more your lungs will get stimulated, more your respiratory tract will get stimulated. Your thymus gland will improve the immunity  and increase the resistance of the body. Even your (bone marrow) b cells secretion will be better. With deep breathing sinuses and adenoids will flush out harbored toxins. Deep breathing and workouts will increase the temperature of the body and that helps fight bacteria, germs and viruses.

After Deep breathing we can perform Double Breathing.

# Double Breathing

Method:

Stand comfortably with feet apart. Begin with inhaling through the nose with a short sharp inhalation followed by a long strong inhalation. Exhale twice through the mouth with a short then long exhalation. While breathing in, stand tall with your spine erect and while exhaling squat a little.

Benefits:

Double breathing oxygenates the blood and energizes the body. It draws the cosmic energy into the body through the medulla oblongata. Medulla is the point where the skull joints the spinal column. It is known as the mouth of God and it’s considered as the portal through which energy enters the body. Do it for a couple of minutes.

Early morning nourishment is vital, vitality will lead to victory. Once we are awake; we need to have lots of oxygen. Take in a lot of sunshine. Fill your lungs with ideal intake of oxygen.

Do humming with sounds like Aum or aum with longer mmm (perpetuating its sound), Brahmari pranayama before bed for a good night sleep, and one can go away from all stress and worries.

Home remedies:

# Half teaspoon bay leaf and 1/4th teaspoon pippali with green tea.

# 1/4th cup of onion juice with 1 tsp of honey and a pinch of black pepper for immediate relief of asthma.

# Half tsp of licorice (mulethi) and half tsp ginger boiled in tea.
