Experts warn that infection can spread from animals and birds to maintain distance

At present, cases of hypersensitive pneumonia are increasing in the country, and the health department has also warned about this. This health problem, known as hypersensitivity pneumonia, is a disease transmitted by animal, microbe, bird droppings and feathers or by chemical reactions that damage the lungs.
Yet as cases of aseptic pneumonia in Maharashtra’s Thane continue to rise, municipal officials have warned against feeding pigeons near residential areas. Officials have also put up posters at various places warning that those who feed the pigeons will be fined ₹500.
Pigeon is one of the most common birds seen in public places. Thus the feathers and beaks of pigeons and other birds act as carriers of bacterial and viral infections that affect the lungs and increase cases of hypersensitivity pneumonia. “Inhaled antigens produced by bird droppings and feathers can enter and damage the lungs. It has a serious impact on health,” he said.

Aspiration pneumonia is diagnosed based on your symptoms along with some additional tests such as allergy testing, lung function testing, and bronchoscopy imaging, along with a blood test.
How to prevent hypersensitivity pneumonia?
- As hypersensitivity pneumonia gradually becomes more serious, early care is essential. To prevent this, first of all, allergies that cause lung inflammation should be avoided.
- Wear a mask for safety if there are many birds or animals around you.
- Always keep humidifiers, hot tubs, and water storage areas covered and clean.
- Do not touch bird feathers
- Make sure that there is no standing water anywhere around the house.
