Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Alok Ranjan on Thursday said on Thursday that in view of increase in vector-borne diseases it has been decided to step up testing in all affected areas, both rural and semi-urban. He said the medical team will visit each house and if they find anyone suffering from suspected vector-borne disease blood samples will be collected. He advised the people to ensure that they wear full sleeve shirts and trousers and avoid visiting green surroundings during day time. He said people need to ensure there is no stagnant water around their houses.
COPD DAY: Chest physician Dr Ashish Shukla while addressing presspersons on World COPD Day on Wednesday informed that India’s most recent National Health Policy aimed to reduce early deaths from non-communicable diseases, including chronic respiratory conditions, by 25 per cent by 2025. He said chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) was a major concern and the second leading cause of death and disability. He said the recent study revealed that a staggering 54 per cent of COPD-diagnosed patients had no knowledge about the disease. He said this highlighted a clear gap in the effective management of COPD where awareness played a crucial role in instigating the process of detection, diagnosis and intervention. He added that the World COPD Day 2023 served as a global call to action to raise awareness about the condition and stress upon the importance of early lung health in COPD management.
Highlighting the role of better disease awareness for the early detection and treatment of COPD he said in a country with diverse medical practices, awareness played a crucial role in promoting disease diagnosis and rational treatment. He said in festive season the potential exposure to triggers like smoke and airborne pollutants can even result in a flare-up of the disease or a lung attack which can take patients a month or longer to completely recover from it. Dr Shukla said bronchodilator inhalers are crucial for treating COPD and programmes like pulmonary rehabilitation can greatly enhance quality of life.
election: Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Rajesh Kumar while addressing a meeting at the Collectorate on Thursday informed that as per the directives of the Principal Secretary, Labour department in view of the state elections in Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh it had been decided that the voters working in Uttar Pradesh will be allowed to cast their votes on November 25. He said all employees working in government office, semi-government private sector under Lok Pratinidhitva Adhiniyam 1951 Section 135 B will be allowed to cast their votes.
CONCERN: City president, Samajwadi Party, Fazal Mehmood while addressing presspersons on Thursday expressed concern over substantial increase in pulmonary diseases on account of bursting of firecrackers during Diwali and burning of garbage in the city.
CAMP: Secretary of Sakhi Kendra Neelam Chaturvedi, while addressing presspersons on Thursday said the Kendra had decided to hold a week-long awareness camp for women domestic help. She said domestic service was now accepted as an important category of livelihood and added that steep decline in agrarian produce and livelihood security in rural areas has caused migration of rural people to the urban areas. She appealed to women domestic help to get themselves registered in the camps so that Sakhi Kendra can take up their issues.
