A confirmed case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in Abu Dhabi has been stated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Monday, 24th July 2023.

Who found positive with MERS-CoV?

The MERS-CoV infection was identified in a 28-year-old male from Al-Ain City in Abu Dhabi and he was admitted to the hospital on 8th June 2023.

After this man was admitted to the hospital, a total of 108 individuals who came in contact with him were monitored for 14 days and the good news is no secondary infections have been detected. Although more details on the health of that 28-year-old is still awaited.

What is MERS-CoV?

The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) is a zoonotic virus that spreads from infected dromedary camels to human beings. The chances to get this virus increases if anyone drinks the milk of an infected camel, come in contact with camel urine, or eats raw camel meat.
