Chandigarh: For the past two weeks, several OPDs in city hospitals have received many cases of children reporting with acute respiratory infections and influenza-like illness. The sudden dip in temperature is the main cause of these infections among children.
“Children are coming with upper respiratory tract infections. Those who have a history of bronchitis are wheezing. They are advised nebulisation and increase in the dosage of inhalers after consultation with doctors,” said a pediatrician in GMCH 32.
Cases of upper respiratory tract infections like sore throat, fever and cough are pouring into city hospitals. Children under the age of two are especially vulnerable. “Those who are vulnerable to asthma, bronchitis and other allergies need to be on their guard now. A healthy diet with fruits and supplements like Zinc and Vitamin C can boost their immunity. In worse conditions, pneumonia can develop,” said a doctor in GMSH-16.
Most of the children are coming to OPDs with acute respiratory tract infection and influenza like illness. In the last 15 days, over 400 children have reported in the OPD, while 35 have been admitted with pneumonia and influenza like illness in GMSH-16. “We have not received any case of Covid associated pneumonia in children,” said Prof Sudhir Garg, medical superintendent, GMCH 32.
