A YOUNG woman suffered a severe asthma attack while out sailing over the weekend.
An 18-year-old was out sailing in the Solent when she started to have difficulty breathing and was experiencing chest pains.
Lymington Lifeboat was called to the scene and rushed there in five minutes as the woman had become in need of “urgent assistance”, according to the RNLI.
The crew assessed her once she was rushed back to shore and found she had a “dangerously” high respiratory rate and was in need of immediate medical care.
The lifeboat crew set about calming and reassuring the woman before she was handed over to an ambulance crew at 1.30pm, around 30 minutes after the incident was reported on October 7.
Helmsman Phil Baker said: “After experiencing a severe asthma attack for around 45 minutes, the casualty was in desperate need of medication and oxygen.
“We are relieved to have been there to administer this care and stabilise the patient. As RNLI volunteers we are here to answer the call to rescue 24 hours a day, seven days a week in our local communities.”
