CHENNAI: The death of one person was notified on Friday when fresh cases in Tamil Nadu dropped to 117 compared to 174 on Thursday. Active cases also fell to 1,649 after the state discharged 377 patients from the registry.
A 78-year-old-man with hypertension and heart disease from Dharmapuri was admitted to the government medical college and hospital on May 3 with complaints of fever, cough and breathing difficulty after he tested positive for Covid-19 on April 26. He died following respiratory failure and Covid-19 pneumonia, doctors said.
Fresh cases dropped to 29 in Chennai and 21 in Coimbatore.
Meanwhile, Union territory of Puducherry reported eight fresh Covid-19 cases even as 22 patients recovered in the last 24 hours ending at 10 am on Thursday bringing down the number of active cases to 68.
