COVID-19 cases continue to climb, with hospitalizations and deaths up 16% and 17%, respectively, from the previous week. That said, good news comes in the form of various studies published this weekend on COVID-19 variant BA.2.86, nicknamed “Pirola.” Despite the physical characteristics of the variant that led many to suspect it would be much more infectious than previous variants, it’s been found that Pirola is substantially less infectious than other variants.
While we can rest easy knowing that this strain isn’t virulent, rising transmissions combined with the approach of flu season means we need be vigilant if we wish to avoid getting sick. This means staying up to date on vaccinations and using products that will curb the spread of COVID-19.
