WRAL News learned Monday that dogs at the Carolina Ranch Animal Hospital and Resort were contracting K9 influenza.

On July 17, WRAL News learned dogs at Carolina Ranch were coming down with a respiratory illness after being boarded.

Dr. Beth Bauer, head of medicine at Carolina Ranch, said the kennel ran tests after reaching out to other animal hospitals in the area.

“We saw a lot of upper respiratory infections and we talked to a lot of other practices that are starting to see them,” Bauer said. “A lot of dogs are infected before they show symptoms.”

Rauch recommends getting your dogs vaccinated, but access to the vaccine is limited, as production of the drug has been slowed since Covid.

Carolina Ranch is offering complimentary exams if pets recently stayed there and are exhibiting symptoms.

Bauer said if your dog is struggling to breathe, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
