During this season, most of the people love to indulge in spicy & fried food as our metabolism is increased and the food we consume is digested easily. This thyme has strong tonic and antiseptic properties, and due to these properties, lemon thyme is an exceptional herb that can be used to treat chest and throat infections, which are quite common in the winter season. To get some instant results from this herb, take a cup of hot water and add a sprig of lemon thyme to it. Cover the cup with a lid and let the herb infuse in it to release its essential oils. Strain and drink this lemon thyme water/tea 2-3 times a day depending on the infection. If you want, you can also add a bit of honey to it.
Also known as pot marigold, this plant is known for its powerful flowers which are known to have antiviral properties, which help in clearing infections, and detoxing and balancing the digestive system, liver and gall bladder. All you need to do is infuse 2 teaspoons of calendula petals in 750ml of just-boiled water for 10 minutes. Strain and drink up to five cups a day.
Often used as garnishing, the fresh leaves of parsley have a good amount of vitamin C in them along with vitamins A & E, and iron. Parsley is considered a detox herb and has anti-inflammatory properties which can help clear toxins and helps lift fatigue. To use this herb in winter, you can add this herb to the salad or any food you are consuming to get relief from seasonal colds and flu. To get instant relief, add 1-2 tbsp of fresh parsley leaves in a cup and add hot water to it. Let it steep for 5-7 minutes and then drink it 2-3 times a day.
Also known as Holy Basil, it is considered one of the important herbs in India. It has inherent healing and enlightening qualities, which can help to maintain a normal body temperature, promote good breathing, speed up digestion, and calm the mind and body. The leaves of the Tulsi plant have volatile oils and antioxidants, which can fight viruses, infections, and allergies. Add it to your regular tea, or dry them and use as a spice in your everyday foods to get relief from cough & cold.
For centuries, liquorice or mulethi has been used as a medicine to get relief from throat pain. It is a wonderful herb that can help treat asthma and respiratory tract diseases, improves digestion, and boosts immunity to help the body fight against winter diseases. This herb has anti-inflammatory properties and also cures skin problems. The root of this plant is available in powder form that can be consumed with honey and ghee and that will provide great health in the winter season.
Commonly known as pudina, it is a herb that’s often used for making delicious chutneys and for garnishing purposes. Not just that, but mint leaves are also used to make tea which can provide relief from indigestion. It is believed that since mint is a cooling herb, it should not be used in the winter season. On the contrary, it has vitamin A and antioxidants present in it which helps in treating headaches caused due to colds and even heals asthma.
