Yoga asanas can cure acid reflux along with strengthening the digestive system and boosting metabolism

New Delhi: Also known as acid reflux, acidity is mostly caused due to oily and spicy food, and overconsumption of caffeine, tobacco, and alcohol which worsens the problem. If you add a good round of sleep to it, there can be a massive spike in the acidity. All these habits clubbed with daily stress can make it a chronic problem that would give rise to many underlying diseases.

What are the symptoms of acidity?

Among the many symptoms of acidity are heartburn, restlessness, constant belching, burping, stomach ache, and even constipation. While these symptoms are painful to bear, there is a simple solution that can help you resolve acidity forever.

Yoga comes to the rescue

Yoga asanas can cure acid reflux along with strengthening the digestive system and boosting metabolism. Here are five easy yoga asanas that can be easily practiced at home daily:

Vajrasana or the Thunderbolt pose: This pose helps in regulating the blood flow to the stomach and intestine while helping the food get digested properly.

How to do: just sit in an erected position with both the legs simultaneously folded backward and hands firmly placed on the thighs.

Pavanmuktasana or the Wind relieving pose: This is also known as the boat pose, which helps stimulate bowel movements to relieve constipation. Once the gas has passed, you will not feel bloated or nauseated as well.

How to do: Lie straight on your back and fold both legs. Press your thighs against the abdomen while clasping the wrists. Bend the neck towards the knee and touch the forehead or chin with the knee. Relax your breathing as well.

Nadi Shodhan Pranayama or alternate nostril breathing technique: This pose helps release stress and anxiety which are also one of the causes of acid reflux. Always make sure to practice this early morning, on an empty stomach.

How to do: Sit in an erect position and place your left hand on the left knee with palms open and keep the index finger on the left nostril. Press your thumb down and breathe gently through the right nostril. Repeat the same with the right hand and finger. After completing one round, take some rest and continue for 20-25 minutes.

Uttarasana or Camel pose: It is good for alleviating back pain that can be caused due to gas. It improves blood circulation and is also good for maintaining good posture.

How to do: Put your knees in line with the shoulders and inhale deeply. Arch your back and slide your palms over the feet till the arms become straight.

Kapaal Bhati or Skull shining breathing: It cures stomach and digestive disorders effectively.

How to do: Sit straight and take a deep breath in. As you exhale, pull your navel back towards the spine. Do as much as you comfortably can.
