Fire medic helps Woman’s Club with ID’ing signs of heart issues

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club’s monthly meeting last week at the Canyon Lake Country Club was themed around heart health awareness, drawing attention to the unique signs of heart attacks in women.

Canyon Lake Fire Department Medic Ryan Moore provided crucial information on recognizing heart attack symptoms, emphasizing the differences between men and women’s experiences, such as chest tightness, jaw pain, and unusual shortness of breath.

Chief Jeff LaTendresse highlighted the importance of calling 911 directly in emergencies and introduced the “Vial of Life” program, which aids firefighters in quickly accessing a patient’s medical information.

The event also focused on stress management, with Vice President of Programs Aprile McKinnon offering tips and handing out stress balls to help lower stress levels. Activities like deep breathing, meditation, and spending time with loved ones were suggested as effective stress-reduction strategies.

Club President Samantha Gorrell thanked the fire department for its participation and highlighted the club’s collection of 28 jars of peanut butter for the Helping Hands charity’s “Spread the Love” drive. The meeting also served as an opportunity to welcome 14 new members at a special brunch, showcasing the club’s growth to over 180 members.

Upcoming events include a Pop-Up Pre-Party on Tuesday, a co-ed gala on March 22 themed around the upcoming Fashion Show’s “Rhinestone Cowboy” motif, and the Fashion Show itself on April 26. With over 100 tickets already sold, the Fashion Show is highly anticipated.

The next club meeting will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and will urge attendees to wear green and reserve spots for both the meeting and the accompanying luncheon.

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club, open to community members and those from outside Canyon Lake, continues to be a vital part of the community, raising significant funds for scholarships and philanthropic efforts. For more information, email can [email protected].
