Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
MAY 31
7:31 p.m. — An elderly woman who was having trouble breathing and had low blood pressure and a slow pulse was taken by Hillsboro ambulance from the 200 block of N. Buller St. in Goessel to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center after home health nurses had trouble loading her in a van. First responders from Goessel were paged but did not answer.
JUNE 1
6:57 a.m. — A 40-year-old man having a diabetic episode in the 1000 block of Denver St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
10:03 a.m. — An 84-year-old woman with a back injury was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC from the 100 block of N. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro.
9:18 p.m. — A 24-year-old man with a 102-degree fever in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital, Marion.
THURSDAY
10:20 a.m. — An 80-year-old woman, awake but not alert after a fall in the 100 block of N. Freeborn St. in Marion, was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
2:30 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to NMC by Marion ambulance.
10:40 p.m. — A 69-year-old man who fell and hurt his chest near 310th and Wagon Wheel Rds. was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance. Lincolnville first responders and an ambulance supervisor arrived a few minutes before the ambulance.
11:09 p.m. — An 82-year-old man with pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Dole Veterans Affairs Hospital, Wichita.
FRIDAY
1:28 a.m. — A medical alert indicating that a 67-year-old woman had fallen in the 700 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody proved to be a false alarm, and a call for Peabody ambulance was canceled.
11:21 a.m. — Marion ambulance and the county’s ambulance director were sent to St. Luke to help personnel there lift a patient.
2:20 p.m. — A Goessel firefighter investigated heavy black smoke near US-56 and its western intersection with K-15.
5:19 p.m. — A utility pole on fire in the 400 block of S. 4th St. in Marion was monitored by Marion firefighters until municipal electric workers arrived.
SATURDAY
12:57 a.m. — A 68-year-old woman who fell and hurt her arm at a residence in the 700 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Peabody ambulance.
2:37 a.m. — Marion ambulance responded to a medical alarm in the 500 block of S. Cedar St., but the patient reportedly was not injured and declined to be taken to a hospital.
1:52 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance responded to a medical alarm for a person who fell at an apartment in 500 block of W. Grand Ave. and could not get up without their help. The patient declined to be taken to a hospital.
4:38 p.m. — An Army truck with a 50-gallon fuel tank caught fire for no stated reason and became fully engulfed in flames on US-77 near Zebulon Rd. Burns firefighters extinguished the blaze and remained on the scene for nearly two hours. An initial request for assistance from Florence firefighters was canceled. However, the county’s interim emergency manager remained at the scene until 8 p.m., and sheriff’s deputies continued to direct traffic around the truck until it was removed at 9:12 p.m.
8:42 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a residence in the 300 block of C St. in Ramona was taken to Salina Regional Health Center by Marion ambulance. An additional attendant from Tampa ambulance assisted during the trip. Medics had intended to take the patient to Hillsboro Community Hospital. However, after waiting nearly 10 minutes at a blocked Union Pacific Railroad crossing, they changed their destination. The ambulance arrived at Salina two hours after the initial call.
SUNDAY
4:20 a.m. — A 91-year-old woman with chest pains was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from Salem Homes in Hillsboro.
3:10 p.m. — A medical alert from a residence in the 200 block of W. 1st St. in Peabody proved to be a false alarm. A call for Peabody ambulance was canceled after an alarm company said the resident was merely testing her alarm.
MONDAY
12:47 p.m. — A 77-year-old woman who thought she was going to have a seizure at a residence in the 100 block of N. Freeborn St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
5:54 p.m. — A 24-year-old man who suffered a stroke was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
