The second cohort of the 39 trainees are now in an 'intensive' two week training programme to help them get to grips with road traffic collisions. 

A spokesperson for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: "We're excited to welcome the latest cohort of our new on-call firefighters to the service.

"Following a successful annual recruitment programme, 39 new on-call firefighters are currently undergoing their training in four cohorts, and on completion, they will be delivering operational response across our rural communities by early next year.

"This second cohort are currently approaching the end of their first week of an intensive two-week course, including vehicle and ladder training, road traffic collision response (as pictured) and, next week, breathing apparatus activities and fire behaviour awareness.
