Kolhapur: Ticket prices have been reduced to pre-covid levels by the Central Railway.
Accordingly, the prices for passenger trains have dropped by nearly 40-50%, offering financial relief to daily commuters. Earlier, they had to pay the express fare for passenger train travel.
Shivnath Biyani, member of the Central Railway Passenger Advisory Committee, said, “All passenger tickets for Kolhapur, Miraj, Sangli, Satara, Pune, Belgavi and Parali have been reduced to half the ticket prices of the previous rates. This has been implemented from Thursday onwards.”
Four years ago, the railways had cancelled all passenger trains to avoid overcrowding during the pandemic. A year after they were reintroduced, the express fare was being charged for passenger train travel. “The people’s representatives and railway passenger associations consistently demanded the railway board to reduce the prices,” added Biyani.
Aniket Vibhute, a daily commuter to Miraj from Kolhapur, said, “For the last three years, to and fro from Kolhapur to Miraj and vice versa would cost me Rs 60 daily, which was unfair for local passenger trains. Now, it will only cost me Rs 30.”
