Noida: The city on Tuesday reported 106 new Covid cases and the second death due to the infection after April 18. The deceased, a 50-year-old man, was suffering from high blood pressure.
“The patient was undergoing treatment at a hospital but due to comorbidities, he faced difficulty in breathing and died on Tuesday,” said Dr Amit Kumar, Noida surveillance officer.
On April 18, a 78-year-old man from Greater Noida succumbed to the virus— the first Covid-related death in the city in 10 months.
Noida now has 703 active cases and 27 hospitalisations. A total of 1,564 samples were tested on Tuesday while 143 people recovered from Covid.
Neighbouring Ghaziabad recorded 64 new Covid cases. It now has 428 active cases and 29 hospitalisations. Over 125 people have recovered from the infection on Tuesday while 2,500 samples were tested. Ghaziabad has also reported two Covid deaths in April after a gap of 10 months.
The health department has established over 250 micro containment zones in areas like Vasundhara, Rajnagar, Vijaynagar, Maharajpur, Modinagar, Mirzapur, Hindon, Dasna, and Rajbagh, among other places.
Officials said that over 150 rapid response teams are working in the micro containment zones, conducting Covid testing, identifying patients with fever and referring them to nearest PHCs or government hospitals.
