In celebration of International Yoga Day and Men’s Health Month, men everywhere are encouraged to prioritize their health and well-being by adopting the age-old practice of yoga. According to select health professionals, yoga improves physical fitness, reduces stress and can aid in combating serious ailments.
Secondly, studies have shown that men who practice yoga regularly experience a range of benefits, including increased range of motion, enhanced strength and sounder cardiovascular health.
Moreover, yoga is a tool for managing mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.
Daryl Roberts, an instructor at Cityoga who has taught yoga and Ayurveda for nearly a decade, spoke about the increasing number of men practicing yoga.
“I’ve seen tremendous growth from men (practicing yoga),” Roberts said. “Men are starting to realize how profound the benefits of yoga truly are.”
However, despite the benefits, many men are still hesitant to try yoga. Some view yoga as too feminine or believe that it will not provide them with the same physical challenges as strength training.
Men’s health and Yoga
However, experts such as Roberts assert that these misunderstandings are baseless, and that yoga can be just as demanding and rewarding as any other form of exercise.
“Yoga illuminates the misunderstandings of (men’s) health,” Roberts said.
Additionally, this International Yoga Day, men around the world are being encouraged to give yoga a try and experience the many benefits it has to offer.
“Give yourself an honest experience with yoga. (Allow yourself) to honestly benefit from yoga,” Roberts said.
Also, by prioritizing their health and well-being, men can improve their quality of life and enjoy a happier, healthier future.
“Yoga is the cultivation of attention and awareness. Whether (men) want to start a business or build a treehouse, yoga can help people be productive in many areas of life,” Roberts said.
