Sometimes, stress tends to become overpowering which can impact our day-to-day lives. In those times, it can affect our work and relationships too. While it is important to address the root of the issue, it is also essential to take certain measures that can help you instantly. “The mind and body cannot cope effectively with relentless stress and pressure. While stress is a part of life and helps maintain motivation and drive, an excess of it can lead to burnout and compromise the ability to cope with the situations. It is important to keep identifying for yourself when you experience such debilitating levels of stress and take remedial measures at the earliest,” said clinical psychologist Kamna Chhibber.

“The thing is, when we have too much cortisol in our bloodstream, it impairs our pre-frontal cortex…that area of the brain that is required for attention and focus. So whatever we are reading or learning or doing will not be at optimum levels. In fact, you might find that you have to re-do a lot of the stuff that you did during this time,” said Gandhi.

Dr Sushma Tomar, consultant, obstetrician and gynecologist, Fortis Hospital, Kalyan said that practicing relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing; engaging in regular physical activity; getting enough sleep; eating a healthy diet; connecting with friends and loved ones, and seeking professional help if needed are some of the essential measures.
