It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to gain or lose weight, the so-called “accordion effect” always poses difficulties in maintaining or achieving the result you want. This is what happens when a person has gained and lost weight with ease.
Personal trainer and physical educator Tauan Gomes explains that anxiety is one of the biggest causes of the accordion effect. Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is another factor. The index concerns the minimum energy required to maintain the body’s functions at rest, such as heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and maintaining body temperature.
“Accelerated weight loss can cause a considerable reduction in the basal metabolic rate, causing your body to spend less and less energy naturally and forcing you to stay on increasingly restrictive diets so that the weight does not increase again” , adds the educator.
