Members of Wicklow COPD Group who participated in World COPD Day with a sponsored walk on the Murrough to raise much needed funds to support the organisation
World COPD Day was marked in Wicklow last Wednesday by the members of the Wicklow COPD group, who organised a sponsored walk on the Murroughgh
COPD Ireland members were challenged to ‘step up and step out’ to raise funds to help with the running of the organisation and Wicklow’s members did step up.
After the event, a spokesperson said: “We would like to thank everyone who supported the group, especially the main sponsor Niall McCrea.”
COPD is a common, preventable and treatable disease that is characterised by ongoing breathing difficulties, usually caused by significant exposure to noxious particles or gases. Major risk factors for developing COPD are tobacco smoking or exposure to occupational, outdoor and indoor air pollution.
There are multiple benefits from exercising when living with a chronic health condition, or as an older adult. COPDSI has developed an exercise programme delivered by a trained professional, who is able to tailor the exercises to your needs and ability. These classes are designed to help improve your physical, and mental symptoms. These classes take place either once a week face to face or three times a week online at specific times depending on the region.
Participation in these classes has been proven to increase muscle strength, flexibility, strength and most importantly control of breathing. Face to Face classes are in the De La Salle Pastoral Centre beside St Patricks Church in Wicklow town. Classes are free and everyone is welcome.
