A teenager has been charged over the alleged sexual assault and robbery of a woman in Western Australia’s Goldfields.
WA Police allege the 17-year-old attacked the woman between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on Thursday as she walked along Kingsmill St, in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder suburb of Victory Heights.
He allegedly sexually assaulted and choked her, before stealing some of her personal items.
Detectives from Kalgoorlie and the Sex Assault Squad arrested the 17-year-old on Saturday night.
The teenager is due to appear in Perth Children’s Court on Sunday on a charge each of aggravated sexual penetration without consent, impeded another person’s normal breathing or blood circulation by applying pressure to neck, and robbery.
Prior to the arrest, Goldfields-Esperance District Police Superintendent Steve Thompson said catching the alleged offender was their highest priority.
“This would have been an horrendous and traumatic incident for the woman involved,” said Superintendent Thompson, “and we’re doing all we can to help her through this.
“She has some great strength and great fortitude … she is assisting us actively with our investigation, which is incredible given what she’s had to endure.
“Everyone has the right to walk around the community freely and without fear, but now that this incident has occurred it would be remiss of me not to encourage people to consider their personal safety.”
