Cinvanti (aprepitant) for nausea? Side effects?

Hello my teal sisters. Has anyone had Cinvanti (aprepitant) for nausea? During frontline chemo ondansetron was included in my prechemo IV. Very effective and minimal side effects. I didn’t know my new oncologist changed to Cinvanti (aprepitant). The morning after chemo, I awoke around 3:00 am with an excruciating headache that lasted hours. I finally knocked it back with prescription pain meds and held it at bay until this evening. I emailed my oncologist to let him know. Has anyone had this medication? Any headaches? I have since read online that headaches are a common side effect. Wondering how many days before they stop. Thanks and best wishes from Louisiana to all.

Hi, I had Aprepitant, Ondansetron, Dexamethasone and Metoclopramide for anti sickness. It was very effective, I experienced no nausea at all, but I had fatigue, visual disturbance and bouts of diarrhoea or constipation but nothing like the headache that you describe. I am thinking of you and hoping that you are feeling better soon. xx

Thanks for responding, Morini. Glad the meds worked well for you. I have not had nausea, but I will ask my oncologist to remove Aprepitant and go back to Ondansetron. I’m hoping the headaches will stop tomorrow when most of the drug will be out of my system. I have Ondansetron pills which oncologist prescribed if I need them. Take care of yourself,

Hi. I had it in my premeds last time I had chemo. I didn’t get headaches though. I honk I had odensatron with it but maybe not. If that’s causing the problem they can probably change it. Xx

Thanks, Delia. I’m sure he will switch me back to Ondansetron for my next chemo. I did have trouble with tachycardia. I have had bouts of rapid heartbeats since my teens. Oncologist is ordering a baseline heart ultrasound for me. Sounds like a good idea. Take care,

Hi Sashay I had everything!!!Dexamethasone, Kytril, and Cinvanti, Pepcid, and Benadryl for the reaction I had to Doxil. Cant comment on any headaches but nausea, constipation and really bad cold night sweats! Hope you can get that all worked out. Take care I am sure they can come up with something in their bag of tricks!Debbie

So you had the night sweats, too. Did they diminish over time? I hope so!Sashay
