TURNER, Jo-Anne (nee Gravelle)
April 6, 1945 – March 15, 2024
It is with a heavy heart that the family announces the passing of their mother, stepmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on March 15, 2024, due to complications of C.O.P.D.
She was predeceased by her husband, William (Bill), and her brothers, Paul and Peter.
Jo-Anne is survived by her two sons, Sean (Noelle) and Kevin; her six grandchildren, Megan (Joe), Melissa, Autumn (Joshuah), Nathanial (Shauna), Abbygayle, and Sebastian; and her two great-grandchildren, Marcus and Eva. She is also survived by her stepdaughter Debbie (Fred), their two children Marshall and Bryan, and great-grandchildren Maisie, Eliza and Carson.
Jo-Anne enjoyed many pleasures, whether vacationing with family or friends, travelling Canada with her sons, or enjoying her favourite pastimes. She was known for her volunteer work at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, but more known was her love of softball. She enjoyed playing her favourite game for more than 55 years. She played 20+ years at the Buchanan Park ladies’ softball league, followed by coaching for a few more years until her health wouldn’t allow it anymore.
Upon her diagnosis of COPD, Jo-Anne joined the Take a Breath (TAB) COPD support group held at the North Hamilton Community Health Centre. She enjoyed many of their activities, including singing for special events. TAB is where she learned how to cope and survive with COPD. She was very thankful for all those who ran the program and those she met in the program.
Cremation has already taken place. A celebration of life will be held in the next couple of months, followed by an internment at the Hamilton Cemetery on York Blvd.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Peter’s Hospital for your care and compassion.
