JAIPUR: Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday. "Following ill health, got my health test done today. My Covid report has come positive. I am in self-isolation and am completely following the advice of doctors and will participate in all the upcoming programs through virtual medium," he wrote on X.
In the state, 17 persons tested positive for Covid-19 in past 24 hours, while one Covid patient died in Jaipur.It was the 8th Covid-19 related death in the state since Feb 3.
Over the past few days, cases of Covid-19 have witnessed a slight spike in the state but the cause of concern is that deaths have also been reported. Since Feb 3, eight persons have died of Covid-19, while 343 persons have tested positive in the state.
In Jaipur, 55 persons were undergoing treatment for Covid-19 till Wednesday morning. The active cases in Udaipur are 37 and in Bikaner 18.
A health department official said that people should take precaution and take treatment if they have influenza-like illness.
Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot had tested positive for Covid-19 on Feb 2. He remained admitted for some days at SMS hospital with complaints of difficulty in breathing.
Doctors in Jaipur say that many patients are suffering from Covid-like symptoms across the state. In the past few days, hospital OPDs and clinics have been witnessing an increase in patients with influenza-like illnesses, they say.
"We are witnessing a sizable number of cases with fever, cold and cough in the OPDs. Most of them have some symptoms like of Covid-19. Chronic cough persists for prolonged time, and in some cases it remains up to 20 days," said Dr Prakash Keswani, senior professor (medicine) at SMS hospital.
Most patients with inflenza-like illness are not getting tested for Covid-19 as symptoms like fever subside within five days of onset.
