After an increase in COVID-19 instances throughout the country in the last week, the Indian Council of Medical Research has released new recommendations for COVID-19. “The guideline does not advice the use of Lopinavir-ritonavir, HCQ, Ivermectin, Convalescent plasma, Molnupiravir, Favipiravir, Azithromycin, Doxycycline,” Dr Lokesh Sharma, health informatics researcher, ICMR, tweeted.
“Antibiotics should not be taken until there is a medical indication of bacterial infection. Covid must be evaluated for co-infection with other endemic infections. “Systemic corticosteroids are not appropriate in mild illness,” according to the updated guidelines.”Get quick medical assistance if difficulties in breathing, high-grade fever/ strong cough, particularly if persistent for more than five days.
“Those with any of the high-risk traits must maintain a low threshold,” the recommendations add. Moreover, “consider Remdesivir for up to five days (200 mg IV on day 1 followed by 100 mg IV OD for the next four days)” in moderate or severe conditions at high risk of advancement, according to the recommendations.
As COVID-19 cases in these states mount, the Union Health Ministry wrote to the state governments of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka last week, urging them to implement a five-pronged plan of the test, track, treat, and vaccines.
India saw a single-day rise of more than 1,000 fresh COVID-19 cases after 129 days, while the active cases increased to 5,915, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Sunday morning. A total of 1,071 fresh cases were reported in the county in a span of 24 hours, while the death toll increased to 5,30,802 with three latest fatalities — one each reported in Rajasthan and Maharashtra and one reconciled in Kerala.
While Jharkhand and Maharashtra reported one death each, two were reconciled by Kerala. At 5,839, the active cases now comprise 0.01 per cent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.80 per cent, according to the health ministry website.
