EAST WENATCHEE — Almost 42 percent of Wenatchee Valley adults have taken at least one shot of their COVID-19 vaccinated, and overall about 33 percent of the eligible Chelan and Douglas County population are fully vaccinated.

The Chelan-Douglas Health District said this week about 45.5 percent of Chelan County adults have initiated vaccination — receiving at least the first-dose of the two-dose Moderna or Pfizer inoculation — and 36.5 percent are now fully vaccinated. In Douglas County, the figures are 38.3 percent initiating vaccination, and 30.5 percent complete.

The local numbers beat the statewide average of just under 30 percent full vaccination. Dr. Umair Shah, the state’s Secretary of Health, says that rate goes along with continuing vaccine success in Washington. The state passed 5 million shots administered as of this week.

“I think it’s really critical that we see that we are continuing to make progress,” Shah said in a Thursday press conference, “but we can only make that progress if we have adequate supply. … We want to make sure that our population, when offered, are getting vaccinated.”
