The state of Illinois recorded 4,673 COVID-19 new cases and 59 deaths over the weekend, according to data posted today on the coronavirus.illinois.gov website.
That brings the totals to 1,339,728 total positive cases and 22,019 deaths statewide since the pandemic began.
The seven-day test positivity rate for Kane-DuPage Region 8 remains at 5.4%.
The seven-day average daily doses administered is down to 87,494 after totaling more than 132,000 at its pinnacle.
There have been a total of 9,393,137 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered to date. Statewide, 76.99% of Illinois residents age 65 and old and 44.57% of residents age 16 to 64 have received at least one dose of vaccine.
While some COVID-19 data moves Illinois a little closer to reopening, other data is now preventing the state from meeting the benchmarks officials have set to move out of Phase 4.
According to data posted on the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Statewide Reopening Metrics page, there is “no significant change” in COVID-19 hospitalizations, which gives a “green light” for reopening.
But that same page shows that COVID-19 Daily Mortality rate is trending up, which turns that category from green to red. State metrics also fall short of reopening in the category of Hospitalized Patients With COVID-19, which also is trending up.
Good news is that there is “no significant change” in the number of daily cases, and the trend line is on a slight decline. Historically, when cases counts go down, hospitalization drop a few weeks later and deaths drop a few weeks after that.
The Illinois Department of Public Health today reported 3,207 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease in Illinois, including 33 additional deaths.

IDPH is reporting a total of 1,335,055 cases, including 21,960 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois.
Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 108,063 specimens for a total of 22,666,333. As of last night, 2,024 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 475 patients were in the ICU and 235 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from April 23-29 is 3.4%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from April 23-29 is 4.0%.
The seven-day test positivity rate for Kane-DuPage Region 9 stayed at 5.6%.

The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses for Illinois is 11,687,325. A total of 9,259,706 vaccines have been administered in Illinois as of last midnight. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 92,747 doses. Yesterday, 103,717 doses were reported administered in Illinois.
