Germany approves global minimum corporate tax
The German parliament has approved the implementation of a global minimum corporate tax, requiring multinational firms to pay a minimum tax rate of 15% on all worldwide profits. This is part of an international effort to prevent large companies from avoiding taxation by shifting profits to low-tax countries. The increase in tax revenue is expected to provide much-needed funds for governments struggling with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The European Union member states have also agreed on a common directive for the implementation of the tax within the EU.

Temperature dip, rise in pollution trigger breathing distress
As temperatures drop and pollution rises in Kolkata, doctors are warning of a surge in respiratory illnesses, particularly for those with asthma, COPD, and other breathing illnesses. The pollution infiltrates the lungs, causing inflammation and obstructing the breathing process. Children are also being affected by hyper-active airway disease, leading to asthma or severe breathing distress. Hospitals are already seeing an increase in respiratory illness patients, with fears of a bed crisis in the critical care units.
