A new fire station and firefighter training facility is coming to Pike Road.

The Pike Road Fire Department plans to build the new facilities on Wallahatchie Road, right across from the current Fire Station #1. The new station will replace the current one.

The 10-acre plot for the new facility was purchased a few years ago and is currently in the planning stages with the architects.

Pike Road Fire Chief Matt Missildine said the training facility will feature a SCBA Maze that would allow volunteer firefighters to be able to familiarize themselves with their gear and learn to use their self-contained breathing apparatus.

“The better training we are able to offer, the more likely we are to pull in new volunteers,” said Chief Missildine. “Volunteers want to be able to do their jobs well. They want to be well-trained.  This is a dangerous job as we’ve seen here recently in the area, so being able to show that our volunteers are well-trained and they have a good place to train, we are able to keep that training up with them. I think that help puts more people at ease and helps more people show that this is a job they can do. This is something that they can volunteer their time for and give to their community.”

The property is scheduled to be done in multiple phases with the goal for the fire station to be finished in two years.

The Pike Road Fire Department has about 40 volunteers and six full-time firefighters.
