CLIFTON PARK — Saratoga County is offering Narcan training on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library at 475 Moe Road.
People who participate in the event will learn how to recognize opioid overdoses and how to properly administer nasal Narcan, according to a press release from the county. The training will take around 10 minutes.
After the training, people will receive a free Narcan kit, which has two doses of Narcan, a rescue breathing shield, a certificate of training, a drug disposal system and information on mental health and substance use disorder resources.
Narcan is a brand name for Naloxone, a medication that can reverse the side effects of an opioid overdose. Anyone who administers Naloxone should call 911.
Under the state’s Good Samaritan Law, anyone can call 911 without the fear of being arrested if they are the one having the overdose or witnessing someone who is.
