Hawaii Gov. Josh Green, who is also a doctor, left the stage during the Memorial Day service at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery to give medical aid to a woman who was having trouble breathing.
Soon after he finished his keynote address, Green’s wife, Jamie, waved him to come down off the stage and help the woman, who was sitting behind her and was losing consciousness, Green’s office said in a written statement.
“The woman was not breathing properly and began to have what appeared to be a hypoxic seizure,” Green said in the statement. “We called 911 and I gently opened her airway. She immediately began to breathe on her own and regain consciousness. She was doing well within about 3 minutes. The family was a little shaken up of course.”
It was the second time this month Green, an emergency room doctor, has put his medical training to use. On May 18, he happened upon a car accident on the Big island while traveling to an event and helped pull the victim out from the vehicle and give him first aid.
