Love was fleeting for Ralphie the ‘demon dog’ as his latest adopted home has returned him to the Niagara SPCA after almost two weeks.
“She now understands that Ralphie IS that good-looking bad boy everyone’s mama warns them about,” the Western New York shelter wrote on Facebook.
Though the home had the right dynamic, the French bulldog was more than his new owner could handle, the SPCA wrote. This was the third time Ralphie had been adopted out.
The 26-pound furry monster went viral last month after the Niagara County SPCA posted a brutally honest description of him in an adoption post on Facebook, calling him a “fire-breathing demon” that is a “whole jerk-not even half.”
The Upstate New York shelter is committed to finding the pup a home, but not without some further training.
Armed with new information from Ralphie’s original owner, the Niagara SPCA has enrolled the dog in a six-week-intensive board and training course through YourEveryDayK9. He heads to his first day of school on Feb. 20.
Whomever has the chance to adopt the pooch will likely need to be local as they will have follow-up visits from the trainer included.
Training a dragon dog like Ralphie will cost $6,000 and the shelter hopes to raise funds to cover as much of that fee as they can. They plan to update the canine’s adoring fans as the trainer sends along updates.
If you wish to donate to the re-education of Ralphie, donate directly through the Niagara SPCA’s Facebook post.
The shelter will be vetting new homes immediately, but they have some added stipulations on who should not apply. They detail that the dog’s new owner should not be:
- Believers that all Ralphie needs is love. He will totally exploit that.
- Those who think our restrictions of no other animals or no kids do not apply to them. Just no. Ralphie has a bite history. You should not want that for your child — 2-legged or 4 (but possibly 3).
Parties interested in adopting Ralphie, should send a letter of interest, dog experience “resume,” and a message on why they believe their home is the right fit for him to [email protected].
