Westmoreland County reported its most additional covid cases this year Saturday, according to state Department of Health data.
The county reported 357 cases, the most since 466 were reported on Dec. 29. The seven-day case average on Saturday increased to 132, the highest that figure has been since Jan. 25. There have now been 29,017 total cases reported in the county.
An additional covid-related death was reported, as well, bringing Westmoreland County’s death total to 703.
Like Westmoreland County, the state saw a high for reported covid cases Saturday, with the most reported in about two months.
Per the Department of Health, Pennsylvania reported 7,132 additional covid cases. That marks the most since 9,643 were reported on Jan. 29. The seven-day case average for the state was 3,969, the highest it has been in about seven weeks. Pennsylvania now has 1,012,299 total covid cases.
An additional 33 deaths were reported Saturday in Pennsylvania. The death total now stands at 24,986, as state nears another grim milestone of 25,000.
Allegheny County remained at higher covid case levels Saturday, as 447 additional cases were reported, according to the county Health Department.
Dates of positive covid tests ranged from Sunday to Friday. Ages of new cases ranged from 1 month to 94, with a median age of 35.
Saturday’s case load in the county marks the third time in the past four days that reported cases were over 400. Prior to that span, Allegheny County had not reported more than 400 cases since last month.
Total covid cases are now 84,258 in Allegheny County. The death toll remained at 1,759 as no new deaths were reported.
Hospitalizations
Pennsylvania saw another increase in covid hospitalizations Saturday, per the state Department of Health data. There are 1,795 currently hospitalized, up from Friday’s count of 1,772. Hospitalizations have gone up every day for the past week in the state, increasing by 266 since last Saturday’s count of 1,529.
The number of hospitalizations in Allegheny County grew Saturday to 198, the most in about a month. The hospitalization count in the county has increased each of the past three days.
In Westmoreland County, covid hospitalizations decreased by one, with 20 hospitalized on Saturday. Westmoreland’s hospitalization count has decreased every day since Monday’s count of 27.
Vaccinations
Covid vaccinations continue to go up in the state, with 1,548,828 partially and 1,704,129 fully vaccinated in Pennsylvania as of Saturday, per Department of Health data. Those numbers exclude Philadelphia County, which handles its own vaccine data and distribution. The state passed 1 million people fully vaccinated for covid-19 on March 10.
Allegheny County’s vaccination numbers increased to 202,684 people partially and 197,902 people fully vaccinated Saturday. The county now has more than 16% of the population full vaccinated.
There are now 51,824 people partially and 51,080 fully vaccinated in Westmoreland County, with about 14% of the county’s population is full vaccinated as of Saturday.
