Minnesota and Wisconsin health officials reported Saturday that 86 more people in the Northland have tested positive for COVID-19.

The 10-county region logged no new deaths from the illness.

New cases and seven-day averages in Northland counties:

  • Aitkin — 4; 3.3.
  • Carlton — 16; 6.1.
  • Cook — 0; 0.4.
  • Itasca — 31; 26.6.
  • Koochiching — 3; 2.3.
  • Lake — 1; 1.
  • St. Louis — 40; 39.9.
  • Ashland — 0; 1.7.
  • Bayfield — 1; 0.9.
  • Douglas — 10; 5.6.

Most of the vaccination gains on Saturday involved people receiving their second dose.

The Minnesota Department of Health reported that half of the people eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine in the northeastern part of the state have completed their vaccine series.

That's 42% of the entire population when factoring in children below the age of 16.

In Ashland, Bayfield and Douglas counties, 38% of the area's population has completed their vaccine series.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services does not track the percentage of people age 16 and older who are vaccinated.
