Florida reported 5,244 coronavirus cases and 85 deaths Saturday, bringing the total number of reported statewide deaths to 32,829.

The state has seen 1,973,109 cases of COVID-19 through the year-long pandemic.

On average, the Florida Department of Health has reported about 4,487 infections and 90 deaths per day this week. It can take officials up to two weeks to confirm and report a coronavirus-related death, meaning the number of deaths added does not necessarily reflect the number of people who died the previous day.

The health department processed more than 94,922 tests on Friday, with a daily positivity rate of about 5.2 percent.

Vaccinations: Florida has vaccinated 4,141,148 people, according to Saturday’s report, with 34,648 people receiving their first shot of a two-dose vaccine on Friday and 42,251 completing a vaccine series. So far, 2,209,719 people have received both doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, while 1,864,201 people have received just one dose. A total of 67,228 people have received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

In Hillsborough County, 219,324 people have been vaccinated; in Pinellas, 196,340; in Pasco, 92,513; in Manatee, 87,664; in Polk, 107,930; in Hernando, 32,557; and in Citrus, 34,851.

Hospitalizations: As of Saturday, Florida hospitals were treating 2,966 patients for COVID-19, including 609 in the Tampa Bay region.

The health department reported 204 new admissions Saturday, including 55 admissions locally.

About 24 percent of hospital beds and 21 percent of adult intensive care unit beds were available statewide. In Tampa Bay, about 24 percent of hospital beds and 21 percent of adult ICU beds were open.

Positivity: Florida’s positivity rate for the past week was about 5.8 percent Saturday, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Before reopening, states should maintain a positivity rate of 5 percent or less for at least two weeks, according to the World Health Organization. A positivity rate of 5 percent or less indicates that testing is widespread enough to capture mild, asymptomatic and negative cases.

The District of Columbia and 32 states currently have a positivity rate below 5 percent.

Local numbers: Tampa Bay added 997 cases and 29 deaths Saturday.

Hernando County reported no new deaths from the coronavirus while Citrus County subtracted one death from its previous count. Polk and Manatee counties both added three deaths. Hillsborough and Pasco counties added four deaths each. Pinellas County reported the most deaths locally Saturday with 16.

Pinellas had the lowest weekly average positivity rate of about 3.8 percent as of Saturday. The next best came from Manatee, Hernando and Polk counties, which all had a positivity rate of five percent. Hillsborough and Citrus counties both reported positivity rates just below eight percent.

As of the latest count, Hillsborough has 115,482 cases and 1,575 deaths, Pinellas has 68,912 cases and 1,517 deaths, Polk has 58,820 cases and 12,03 deaths, Manatee has 33,180 cases and 638 deaths, Pasco has 34,631 cases and 678 deaths, Hernando has 11,812 cases and 435 deaths, and Citrus has 9,999 cases and 418 deaths.
