New covid case numbers continue to decline in Pennsylvania, as well as in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.
On Saturday, only one county in the state reported triple-digit cases.
Cases
The state reported 1,658 additional covid cases Saturday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, only one reported more than 100 cases: Philadelphia with 382. The state’s covid case total is now 1,195,013.
Allegheny County had another day with fewer than 100 cases reported. There were 80 cases reported (67 confirmed, 13 probable).
New cases ranged in age from 11 months to 95, with a median age of 31, per the county Health Department. Additionally, the county has seen case counts of fewer than 100 in four of the past seven days.
That’s something not seen since mid-October.
Total cases in Allegheny County are now 100,799.
An additional 32 covid cases were reported in Westmoreland County. Of Saturday’s case count, 21 were confirmed and 11 probable.
There are now 33,909 total cases in the county.
Vaccinations
According to the most recent data from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Pennsylvania now has 5,234,840 people fully vaccinated for covid. That’s 40.9% of the state’s population. There are now 7,185,382 people who have received at least one dose of a covid vaccine, which is 56.1% of the population.
In Allegheny County, there are 528,793 fully vaccinated residents (43.2% of population). A total of 728,815 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine now (59.58% of population).
Westmoreland County now has 131,519 people fully vaccinated (36.02% of population) and 167,057 with at least a dose of vaccine (45.75% of population).
Hospitalizations
Covid hospitalizations continued to decline in Pennsylvania on Saturday, according to state data. There were 1,198 covid-19 patients hospitalized, marking the 18th consecutive day of decline to the current hospitalization count. Over the span, hospitalizations have gone down 44.8%.
Down 11 from Friday, there were 109 people hospitalized for covid in Allegheny County on Saturday. Covid hospitalizations in the county have decreased in five of the past seven days and have seen a 27.8% drop over the span.
Similarly in Westmoreland County, recent figures show declines in three of the past four days to the county’s covid hospitalization count (a 32.2% decrease in the past four days). There were 21 patients hospitalized as of Saturday.
Deaths
On Saturday, the state Health Department reported 39 additional covid deaths, bringing the state’s total to 27,029. Through Saturday, there have been 811 deaths reported in May.
There was one additional covid death reported in Allegheny County on Saturday, according to the county Health Department. That person was in their 80s and the death was associated with a long-term care facility. The county’s death total is now 1,933, with 66 covid deaths reported in May so far.
Westmoreland County reported an additional death Saturday, bringing its death total to 761. There have been 18 deaths reported in the county thus far in May.
