World Oral Health Day is celebrated every year on March 20 to raise awareness about the importance of oral hygiene which can eventually help to reduce oral diseases. The day is observed globally and dentists all over the world use different platforms to promote dental hygiene and oral health. They also speak about good oral hygiene practices that can help prevent oral diseases.

A lot of people don’t take their oral health seriously and end up with swollen gums or infected teeth and several other conditions. Therefore, it is important that you take care of your oral health.

Several people suffer from bad breath, which is a sign of poor oral hygiene. Visiting a dentist might not always be feasible, however, you could always resort to home remedies that can help if you’re suffering from bad breath.

Here are a few home remedies that can help you with bad breath


If you’re suffering from bad breath, yoghurt can help you. The healthy bacteria present in yoghurt called lactobacillus can help to remove the bad bacteria from your mouth which can eventually work to reduce bad breath. The probiotics are helpful in reducing bad breath.

Fennel or anise seeds

These have been used as mouth fresheners for ages. They help to freshen your breath and have a sweet taste. They contain aromatic essential oils which gives freshness to your breath.

Green tea

This is known to be an effective remedy for bad breath as they have disinfectant and deodorizing properties. These properties help to freshen your breath. You could brew two cups of tea and refrigerate it overnight. The next morning, pour it into a bottle and drink it throughout the day.

Mouthwash made with Baking Soda

The sodium bicarbonate can help to remove the bad bacteria present in the mouth. To make baking soda mouthwash at home, add two teaspoons of baking soda to a cup of warm water and your mouthwash is ready. Now, swish it around your mouth for about 30 seconds and then spit it out. You could also use toothpastes available in the market that have sodium bicarbonate in them.


A lot of people suffer from bad breath because they don’t produce enough saliva. When there isn’t saliva to wash away the foul-smelling bacteria, it causes bad breath. Here comes oranges to the rescue. This fruit has high amounts of Vitamin C present in them which helps to increase the amount of saliva production. The increase in saliva production can help you get rid of bad breath.
