With many people spending more time indoors than ever before, it is important to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also supportive of the health and well-being of the people who occupy them. This is where Dr. Kasia Sterriker and her philosophy of biophilic design come into play. In a world that’s increasingly disconnected from nature, biophilic designs provide a way to bring elements of the natural world into our lives.

Dr. Kasia Sterriker is a visionary in the world of environmental art, seamlessly blending her love for nature with her passion for design. Born in Poland, Dr. Kasia was raised in a family of bonsai masters and honed her skills under the guidance of her father, Wlodek Pietraszko. Also, her husband, Paul Sterriker, shares her love for science and horticulture, and together they’ve embarked on a journey to breathe life into interiors through the use of biophilic design.

With the rapid urbanization of the world, Kasia and Paul are on a mission to bring nature back into our living and working spaces through their one-of-a-kind biophilic designs. This concept has gained immense popularity amongst interior designers, architects, and homeowners alike in recent years. Through her passion for horticulture and science, Dr. Kasia has been able to create stunning biophilic designs that not only enhance the aesthetics of a space but also provide the physiological and psychological benefits of being in nature.

Dr. Kasia’s creativity, combined with her scientific background, has enabled her to provide her clients with sophisticated solutions that bring nature back into our urban environments. She holds two PhDs, one in Environmental Engineering and the other in Landscape Architecture. This unique combination of education in these two fields has allowed her to bring a scientific understanding of the environment to her work as a biophilic designer. With her broad range of knowledge, she has been able to bring her vision to life in a way that is both innovative and impactful, and not only do they look beautiful, but they are also sustainable and environmentally responsible.

While in academia, she not only made valuable contributions to the world of horticulture by developing several patents, but she also gained practical experience by participating in infrastructure projects for town and city planning, including the construction of motorways. Her education allowed her to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her work as a biophilic designer, and her commitment to both art and science is evident in the quality of her work.

Together with her husband, the Sterrikers have taken biophilic design to new heights, using organic art to create a seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors. In their projects, they’ve successfully fused indoor and outdoor spaces, bringing a unified design to life. From high-end restaurants to residential properties, their work has left a lasting impression on building occupants and urban environments alike.

Dr. Kasia’s design philosophy is simple yet powerful: to create spaces that connect people with nature and evoke a sense of calm and comfort. She’s known for her ability to bring the warmth of the indoors to outdoor spaces and vice versa. Her work has caught the eye of celebrities and famous figures, and she continues to inspire others with her innovative and creative designs.

“For me, biophilic design is not just about aesthetic appeal, it’s about creating spaces that promote the health and well-being of those who occupy them.I believe that we have a responsibility to create environments that promote physical, mental, and emotional health, and that’s what I aim to do with my designs. Whether I’m designing a commercial building, a residential property, or a public space, my goal is always the same: to bring the beauty of nature into the built environment in a way that is functional, sustainable, and meaningful.” – Dr. Kasia Sterriker.
