Q I am a healthy and well 49-year-old who has a very hidden phobia of dementia. This has been going on (and off) for about ten years. My life in every way (well, to the outside world) is relatively happy, busy and productive. I have two older teenage children, work full time and am a supportive partner.
This fear comes and goes depending on recent dementia news stories (or films) being discussed in the media, which always increases my anxiety. I then avoid reading such articles (or watching such films) at all costs. I am now worried that this fear is transferring to older people generally. If an older relative shows any minor signs of dementia, my anxiety spikes and I try to avoid seeing
