Isabella Heupel – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS senior Maya Lander has designed a new room on campus called the "Relax Room."
The Relax Room is located in the clinic and gives a place for Mustangs who suffer from anxiety and panic attacks to calm down.
To utilize this room Mustangs can express to their teacher that they are feeling anxious or stressed and teachers may send them to the room.
The Relax Room is filled with many breathing and meditation practices as well as many tangible items to help distract negative thoughts.

Nurses and health aids can step into the room and assist Mustangs by talking them through a panic attack.
Lander has been part of the Girl Scouts for 11 years and decided to create the Relax Room to work towards the gold award. The gold award is the highest award able to be achieved in Girl Scouts.
Lander decided on the Relax Room after noticing that within the past year many Mustangs have felt an increase in stress and anxiety due to COVID-19.
Lander stated, "I believe that the Relax Room is a crucial thing that we need on campus and it is important for Mustangs to know that there is somewhere they can go to calm their nerves."
