An Italian woman had a fatal dinner with her husband after the pizza gave him food poisoning that ended his life. The man is in critical health condition.
According to the Daily Mail, Gerardina Corsano, 46, and her husband, Angelo Meninno, 52, went on Saturday, October 28, 2023, to eat pizza at a restaurant in the town of Ariano Irpino, southern Italy.
After eating the food they went home without any problem, but the next day they started feeling sick. Their symptoms lasted until October 31, the date on which they were hospitalized in a clinic due to frequent spasms.
Corsano died of possible food poisoning caused by botulism, apparently caused by contaminated chili seasoning put on the pizza.
According to specialists, botulism is a rare but serious disease caused by a toxin that attacks the body’s nerves. Improperly prepared, packaged, preserved or fermented foods create the conditions for the production of this toxin, which can cause breathing difficulties, muscle paralysis and even death.
This type of poisoning is considered a medical emergency and should be treated as soon as possible.
Meninno was hospitalized and is in a serious condition, however, doctors are optimistic about his prognosis and believe that he will survive. Currently, the investigation is ongoing to clarify the woman’s death.
A similar case of botulism poisoning occurred in a Brazilian woman who bought a bottle of artisanal pesto at a farmer’s market and was paralyzed for a year.
“I receive treatments every day of the week, from myofascial release to analgesia, laser, cupping, Pilates to regain muscle tone, strengthening and pulmonary physiotherapy,” said the patient, who now says more he is careful about the food he buys and consumes. ..
