SOME 26 school teachers of the Department of Education in San Carlos City are undergoing a five-day basic life support and standard aid training with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer this week.

The training for the teaching personnel, which began on Monday, July 24, 2023, is being held at the SCC Multi-purpose Hall at Park Marina.

The DepEd Schools Division of San Carlos City aims to train a total of 104 teachers from the 67 schools in the city, with this week’s trainees as the second batch.

The training aimed at capacitating teachers and refreshing their knowledge in medical support since most schools in the city are in mountainous areas prone to flooding and landslides, said Iris Uy, DepEd DRRM Project Development Officer.

She added that the training is crucial for teachers, so they can handle students during an emergency, being the school’s frontliners.

Uy also thanked the city government, especially Mayor Renato Gustilo for the support.

The trainees are introduced to first aid, guidelines in giving emergency care to patients, casualty handling, shock, soft tissue injuries, bones, joints and muscle injuries, poisoning, common emergencies and basic life support (cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), rescue breathing and foreign body airway obstruction) on the training course consisting of lectures and simulation exercises.

Participants are expected to learn the basics of medical support during the five-day training so they can apply them in real-life situations, she added.
