LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Lee County is warning both residents and out-of-towners about the abundance of traffic coming to the region with the start of Major League Baseball’s Spring Training.
Fort Myers is the winter residents of two Grapefruit League teams, The Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins. Both squads begin their regional competition this coming Saturday, February 25th.
From now until the end of March, stretches of roadways will be littered with fans of America’s Pastime causing extensive delays and possible stand-still traffic moments. In particular, Lee County DOT wanted to highlight two specific day when the Red Sox and Twins will be playing at the same time, a mere five-and-a-half miles away.
- Sunday, March 5 ‒ The Boston Red Sox host the Miami Marlins at JetBlue Stadium and the Minnesota Twins host the Detroit Tigers at Hammond Stadium. Both games start at 1:05 p.m. Peak traffic is anticipated between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and then again between 3:45 and 4:30 p.m.
- Friday, March 17 ‒ The Minnesota Twins host the Baltimore Orioles at Hammond Stadium and the Boston Red Sox will host the Atlanta Braves at JetBlue Stadium with both games starting at 1:05 p.m.
During this time, Lee County DOT will be providing special programming for traffic-signal timing to keep vehicles moving. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office will also be used outside the stadiums to help facilitate the flown of traffic.
