I was convinced I had managed to beat the technology as I declared a bare-faced lie in front of one of the five probation officers authorised to carry out the polygraph tests.
This is the kind of test that will be imposed on a whole new cohort of offenders under plans set out in the government’s criminal justice bill, which is currently going through parliament.
The test, which currently only serious domestic abusers and terrorists must undergo on release from prison, will be extended to murderers, offenders convicted of conspiracy to murder and serious sexual offenders.
