There are a variety of scales to measure the RPE. The most common one is the modified RPE scale with 0–10 numbering. The other is the Borg RPE scale, but it is a bit complex with numbers from 6 to 20.
RPE 0: No activity (rest)
RPE 1 to 3: Easy intensity- You can talk normally and breathe easily.
RPE 4 to 6: Moderate intensity- You can talk in short spurts and your breathing is more forced.
RPE 7 to 9: Hard intensity- You can barely talk, you're breathing heavily, and you are rout of your comfort zone.
RPE 10: Max-effort intensity- You can't talk, you're gasping for breath, and you are working at your physical limit.
