Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel has tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced. He will miss Sunday's preseason matchup against the Red Wings and will be replaced by Dominik Simon.
Guentzel is being monitored by the team's medical staff. Per the league's protocols, Guentzel could return for the Penguins' regular-season opener against the Lightning on Oct. 12 provided he does not fail tests twice moving forward.
Guentzel is the second Penguins player to test positive during camp. Forward Zach Aston-Reese tested positive this past Monday.
Guentzel, 26, played in 56 games last season for Pittsburgh, compiling 57 points (23 goals, 34 assists).
