CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health reported Sunday that the number of confirmed or probable infections of the novel coronavirus had risen to 978,471, up 735 since Saturday.

The state did not report any new deaths in the last 24 hours. According to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard, the total number of deaths is no longer available daily. It will be updated two times a week.

The state reported 1,506 new cases Saturday.

In the past 24 hours, COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide rose by 33, which is far lower than the 21-day rolling average of 111 daily hospitalizations. Two COVID-19 patients were transferred to the ICU in the past 24 hours, also much lower than the current 21-day rolling average of 13.

Sunday’s case count is less than half of the 21-day rolling average, which currently sits at 1,863.

Ohio reported another 58,227 COVID-19 vaccines started, meaning at least one dose has been given, as of Saturday afternoon. A total of 1,929,773 vaccines have been started in the state, representing 16.51% of Ohio’s population. A total of 1,075,272 vaccinations have been completed (9.2% of Ohio’s population).

Coronavirus statistics on weekends often lag due to reporting delays.

There are greater than 116 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and nearly 2.6 million deaths worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins researchers. In the U.S., there are almost 29 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and close to 525,000 COVID-19 deaths.
