Michigan reported 1,992 new coronavirus cases and 99 new deaths for Tuesday, May 11. Of the new deaths, 32 occurred prior to the last 24 hours and were identified in a vital records review
The state is averaging 2,199 new cases and 63 new deaths per day over the last week, according to data from the Department of Health and Human Services. That’s the lowest seven-day case average since March 18.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 867,341 reported coronavirus cases and 18,338 deaths. Additionally, the state has reported 100,270 probable cases and 1,175 probable deaths, in which a physician and/or antigen test ruled it COVID-19 but no confirmatory PCR test was done.

Out of Michigan’s 83 counties, 77 reported new cases Tuesday, led by Wayne with 367, and Oakland and Kent both with 201. Other top-reporting counties included Macomb (146), Kalamazoo (108), Ottawa (101), Muskegon (63), Genesee (50), Saginaw (48), and St. Clair (46).
Counties with no new cases included Kalkaska, Gogebic, Manistee, Lake, Alger and Keweenaw.
33 counties reported at least one new death, led by Wayne with 24, Oakland with 15 and Kalamazoo with six.

Hospitals statewide were treating 2,355 patients with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, with 666 patients in the ICU. That’s down from 3,063 patients being treated about a week ago.
Of the 19,970 diagnostic tests processed on Monday, May 10, 8.37% came back positive for SARS-CoV-2. The latest seven-day average has been 8%, down from 12% a week ago.

(In a few instances, a county reported a negative number (decline) in daily new cases, following a retroactive reclassification by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. In those instances, we subtracted cases from the prior date and put 0 in the reported date.)
The next chart below shows new cases for the past 30 days based on onset of symptoms. In this chart, numbers for the most recent days are incomplete because of the lag time between people getting sick and getting a confirmed coronavirus test result, which can take up to a week or more.
