Utah counted more than 30,000 COVID-19 vaccinations in the state Wednesday without adding any more deaths.

The state did count 530 new cases, well above the seven-day rolling average of 394. The state reports 148 people are currently in Utah hospitals with coronavirus, up from 124 reported yesterday.

The United States halted the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine based on fears that less than one in 1 million cases could cause blood clots.

U.S. health officials are weighing next steps as they investigate a handful of unusual blood clots in women who received Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine.

For those who are vaccine hesitant, any growth in skepticism makes vaccines a tougher sell, AP reports. The reports are exceedingly rare — so far, six cases out of more than 7 million inoculations. It’s not clear if they are linked to the J&J vaccine.

Meanwhile in Europe, with a more sluggish vaccine program, leaders scrambled in the wake of the unexpected delay of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 shots.

While some European Union countries opted for caution, Poland said that it would go ahead and administer the first batch of 120,000 doses that had arrived. Others like Spain and Portugal were left without a choice: They are still waiting for their first deliveries.

EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen announced plans Wednesday for a major contract extension for COVID-19 vaccines with Pfizer stretching to 2023.

Utah is investigating one woman's case of a stroke to see if it has any connection to the vaccine. The state put a pause on the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, a day ahead of booked appointments for pharmacies.

Globally, according to aggregating website Worldometers.info/coronavirus/, there have been 138 million confirmed cases. Of the closes cases, 2,979,034 million people have died — approximately 3%. Brazil however has become a leader for new deaths, including Tuesday when it recorded 3,687 dead of the planet's 12,923. The U.S. had 819, just behind second-place India's 1,026. Full data is not yet available for Wednesday.
